Our upcoming concerts
Piano concerts by the ROC ensembles in Berlin
The spirit that fully opened the doors of the world to the piano concerto was Mozart's. Through his experiments, Mozart revealed possibilities and paths for the piano concerto that were later explored—and surpassed—by the Romantics: Beethoven, Schumann, and Brahms, as well as Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and many others.
Even in the 20th century, this genre continued to flourish, leading to a wealth of works with astonishing expressive power. Our orchestras will bring these masterpieces to life with clarity and intensity at the Philharmonie Berlin, the Konzerthaus at Gendarmenmarkt, and other magnificent venues in Berlin.
Special concert events
Haydn - one of the initiators of the piano concerto
However, the piano concerto was created by others: Bach wrote works that can justifiably be described as forerunners of the piano concerto.
And at the time when the harpsichord was slowly being replaced by the piano, Joseph Haydn played a decisive role in the development of the piano concerto. Haydn's Piano Concerto in D major in particular is not only influential for the piano concerto genre, but is also still performed very frequently.
Popular piano concertos
The piano concerto genre really exploded in the 19th century and top-class composers contributed to enriching this wonderful genre with excellent works. This development continued into the 20th century.
Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in E flat major are undoubtedly works that have made it to the Olympus of the piano concerto. But the piano concertos by Liszt, Chopin, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Grieg or Ravel, for example, are also played very frequently to extremely appreciative audiences.
Experience the delight of a piano concert in Berlin, performed by one of our ROC ensembles!
