The ROC

What started as an unusual solution for the radio ensembles of formerly divided Berlin has in the meanwhile become an integral part of the German orchestral and choral landscape.

2025: 4 Ensembles
over 31 Years
about 300 Concerts
over 300.000 Visitors
over 17 Mio. Radio Listeners¹
an average of 1.5 Mio. Radio Listeners per Concert²
about 14 Mio. Listeners on Spotify

Four ensembles. One organization. Music for everyone.

The Rundfunk Orchester und Chöre gGmbH Berlin (ROC) is the result of taking responsibility for preserving the musical excellence of the four ensembles after the reunification of Germany. In this way, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, RIAS Kammerchor Berlin, Rundfunkchor Berlin and Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin can continue through the present day to fulfill the musical promise that they gave Berlin, Germany and the world.

Since the ROC was founded in 1994, it sees itself as a service provider creating the structural and financial condictions to enable and foster the artistic processes of the individual ensembles.

Its four ensembles play over 300 live concerts annually for more than 300,000 concertgoers, reaching more than 1.8 million listeners around the world via radio, as well as numerous users of streaming platforms.

Music from Berlin, music for the world

With the ROC, Germany's largest ensemble group was founded, bringing Berlin's musical message to the world.

Culture serves the common good

Music is a universal language that we convey in our work with children and young people. We also realise inclusion projects and support socially disadvantaged people. Because living together side by side is always part of culture.

Our partners

The ROC is one of the largest organisers of classical concerts in Germany. Its four ensembles reach listeners in Berlin, Germany and all over the world – whether in the concert hall or over the radio. This robust presence is only possible by bringing together the strengths of its four shareholders. Deutschlandradio is the majority shareholder with 40%, followed by the Federal Republic of Germany with 35%, the state of Berlin (20%) and Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (5%). The necessary financial expenditure for the four ensembles is thus spread across several partners. At the same time, all sides profit from the exceptional artistic quality.

1) Data sources for reach in the DACH region:
Press programme service of media-press-tv AG, MA 2025 audio ll and equivalents from Austria
and Switzerland
2) Data source for international reach potential:
EBU Media Intelligence Service. The data on the reach potential of stations that have ordered
and broadcast one or more concerts featuring a ROC ensemble is collected by the EBU through
annual surveys of radio stations. External data is also included in the survey. The average
potential reach of the concert recordings mentioned above is calculated from the sum of the
reach of the broadcasting radio stations per concert recording.
