Wayne Marshall
Wayne Marshall guides you through a century of American music as both conductor and pianist: In addition to the German premiere of Errollyn Wallen’s "The Elements" – which premiered at the BBC Proms in 2025, where Wallen had already performed in 1998 as the first Black woman ever to do so – the program features Kurt Weill’s suite from the musical "Lady in the Dark" and two works by George Gershwin: his legendary "Rhapsody in Blue" and "Porgy and Bess: A Symphonic Picture," whose "Summertime" aria has been familiar to everyone since the interpretations by Ella Fitzgerald and Janis Joplin, if not before. Hardly anyone is as well-suited for this occasion as Wayne Marshall, an absolute Gershwin authority.
