Rustioni & Tines
Shostakovich’s Tenth Symphony is the first he was able to compose without fear of persecution or deportation. Yet it did not turn out to be a symphony of joy. Davóne Tines’ "Concerto No. 2: Anthem," which he himself will sing this evening at the Berlin Philharmonie, also takes a critical look at the politics of his time: the current state of affairs in the United States. The concert opens with Samuel Barber’s Adagio for String Orchestra – one of the most haunting pieces ever written. Thus, the evening begins on a deeply contemplative note, before delving into the abyss.
