Nagano & Blechacz
Nagano’s piano teacher and pianist Yvonne Loriod - wife of Olivier Messiaen - could grasp even the most intricate work in no time at all and infuse it with soul. Her own compositions, however, remained unperformed for a long time. Her "Pièce sur la souffrance" will be performed for the first time this evening. Afterward, Kent Nagano, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, and pianist Rafał Blechacz will take you to the boundary between the Baroque and Classical periods with Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 24, before Schubert’s "Great," his last completed symphony, draws you into a maelstrom from which you won’t want to escape.
