Heroines: Margot Friedländer
One day after the anniversary of the end of the war, the "Heroines" concert and discussion series is dedicated this time to Margot Friedländer. The Holocaust survivor, who passed away in 2025, worked tirelessly to combat forgetting and to promote tolerance and humanity. At Villa Elisabeth, Malin Schwerdtfeger, co-author of Friedländer’s autobiography "Versuche, dein Leben zu machen" ("Try to Make a Life for Yourself"), will read from her memoirs. Accompanying the reading, pianist Benjamin Hochman and three female string players from the DSO will perform works by Jewish female composers such as Gideon Klein, Ilse Weber, Ursula Mamlok, and Hans Gál – who were persecuted by the Nazis, driven into exile, or murdered – as well as a movement by Gustav Mahler, whose music was banned posthumously by the Nazis.
