Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
"As the deer pants" – the title of Mendelssohn’s arguably most significant psalm composition – so the soul thirsts for God. Robert Schumann, too, placed the composition "at the highest level that modern church music has ever attained." Mozart’s unfinished "Great Mass," on the other hand, is not polished, but rather resembles a volcanic eruption – and one that engages with Handel and Bach, no less! The Rundfunkchor Berlin will perform these two works – so different and yet both sacred – under the baton of principal conductor Gijs Leenaars, who is bidding farewell to the ensemble this season after twelve years.
