Debüt im Deutschlandfunk Kultur
The young talents who have been making their major debuts here alongside the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin since 1959 always choose the program for "Debut on Deutschlandfunk Kultur" themselves. This time, conductor Riley Court-Wood, pianist David Khrikuli, and violinist Geneva Lewis will be making their debuts. The composers wrote all of the evening’s works in their 20s – Lili Boulanger composed hers shortly before her untimely death. Her "D’un matin de printemps," however, sparkles with curiosity and joie de vivre. Rachmaninoff overcame a creative crisis with his Second Piano Concerto. Barber’s Violin Concerto was commissioned for the violinist Iso Briselli. And Strauss’s "Don Juan," despite the composer’s youth, reflects on the life of an aging womanizer.
