Yamada & Queyras

Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin

Exhilaration, visions, and distant worlds under the Philharmonie’s new chief conductor, Kazuki Yamada: Dutilleux composed his "Distant World" ("Tout un monde lointain…") based on Baudelaire’s poems, playing with memories, allusions, and associations. Cello virtuoso Jean-Guihen Queyras takes on this piece – which pushes the limits of playability – on his 1707 Stradivarius "Kaiser." In Berlioz’s epoch-making "Symphonie fantastique," nightmarish visions of an opium high come to life. At the start of the evening, Grażyna Bacewicz’s "Overture" unleashes the full power of a great symphonic work in just six minutes.
