John Storgårds & Vivi Vassileva

Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin

What does the sun sound like at midnight? Outi Tarkiainen answers this question with her "Midnight Sun Variations," which depict the endless sunlight of the North. Complementing this is Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" – the music that has been bringing Shakespeare’s enchanted forest to life for nearly 200 years. Tan Dun and Sibelius, on the other hand, focus on water: as a “tear of nature” in Dun’s work – featuring percussionist Vivi Vassileva – and as "the purest cold spring water" in Sibelius’s. The Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin is conducted this evening by John Storgårds. – in a relaxed, free, and highly emotional style, just as the Finnish conductor is known for his interpretations of Sibelius.
