Capuçon & Hagen

Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin

This concert begins in a lush, shimmering, and wistfully impressionistic vein with Charlotte Sohy’s "Thème varié," a work that, unfortunately, lay forgotten for far too long. Next, conductor and violinist Renaud Capuçon – making his conducting debut with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin – and cellist Julia Hagen, who is also appearing with the DSO for the first time, perform Brahms’s Double Concerto, which opens with a powerful and uncompromising force. Thirty years before this work, Brahms composed the light-filled, romantic Serenade No. 1, which is reminiscent of Mozart and Haydn and is simply a blast to listen to.
