Vladimir Jurowski & Anastasia Kobekina
Glière, who was born in Kyiv, was Ljatoschynskyj’s teacher, who in turn was Silvestrov’s teacher. The three form a teacher-student chain of musical excellence. Although Weinberg does not belong to this lineage, he shares with Lyatoshynsky and Silvestrov the experience of persecution, censorship, and forced conformity in the Soviet Union – much like Shostakovich, who helped the Jewish refugee from Poland obtain Russian citizenship. Thus, this entire concert – conducted by Principal Conductor Vladimir Jurowski and featuring cellist Anastasia Kobekina – is all about resistance in Eastern Europe.
