Leonard Slatkin & Cameron Carpenter
Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin
The centrepiece of this evening is Samuel Barber’s ‘Toccata festiva for Organ and Orchestra’, which is not only a technical challenge for organists but also a dazzling display of organ music, rich in colour and dynamism. At the organ: Cameron Carpenter. Framing the programme, the American conductor Leonard Slatkin spans the 20th century in America with Bernstein’s dance episodes from “On the Town” and Copland’s Symphony No. 3.
