Were music not already something highly emotional, it would indubitably become so on this evening – Steinberg's "Passionswoche", which was filed away and forgotten for almost a century, Shostakovich's swansong to himself, and ultimately the deeply moving Stabat Mater by James MacMillan make up a moving programme.
