The evening begins with the first African American composer to receive the Pulitzer Prize – "Lyrics for Strings" is dedicated to Walker’s grandmother and revolves around loss and hope in the context of slavery. Afterwards, Beethoven reveals his lyrical side, before Strauss' "Eine Alpensinfonie" unleashes the thunder of glaciers, summit bliss, and looming dangers.
