Elim Chan
Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin
After the evening was duly introduced by conductor Elim Chan and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin with three Latin American dances by Gabriela Lena Frank in their German premiere, Bartók's 2nd Piano Concerto storms through the Berlin Philharmonie in wild yet gripping rhythms. The finale is Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4, a confrontation with ominous fate, but which offers glimpses of light at the same time.
